It really comes down to what you want from the weather and the atmosphere. The south is the “shorts from breakfast to bedtime” side, where you’re unlucky to hit a bad week, and most days feel made for beach and pool. The north has more cloud, more green, and more local life, and you’ll probably need a jumper in the evenings now and again.
If you’re miserable without guaranteed sun, the south will make you happier. If you roll your eyes at strip malls and prefer old streets and proper neighbourhood cafes, you’ll probably get more out of the north. Some people fall for one side, some end up switching each visit.
