You can drive into the Teide area and get to plenty of viewpoints and trailheads. What you can’t do is drive all the way to the summit.
The roads themselves are part of the appeal, winding through black lava, pine forest, and then that dry, lunar-looking high ground near the top. Just don’t expect to park right at the peak and stroll up in trainers.
