January is usually the coldest month in Tenerife, even then it is mild by UK standards. Daytimes are often pleasant, but evenings can feel cooler, especially if you are staying higher up or in the north.
The south stays warmer and drier than the north, so two parts of the island can feel quite different. If you want the softest winter weather, the southern resorts are the safer bet.
